CHICS Executive News
If I receive any news that concerns all three CHICS groups, it will be posted on this page.

CHICS Executive Committee
Chairperson: Sarah Shone
Secretary: Fiona Jones
Treasurer:
Family Liaison Officer: Erica Handley
Family Support Worker: Eddie Hincks

Isle of Man Representative:
We would like to welcome Cheryl Smethurst as the CHICS representative on the Isle of Man. Cheryl is the mum of Charlotte and Grace and has very kindly volunteered her time to be a contact point on the Island. Any new families can be referred to Cheryl and hopefully she will be able to offer support and give lots of useful information. As it is expensive for the families to come over to the main land to attend events etc we hope they will begin to organise events on the island that all the children can enjoy.

Holiday On Offer via Northern Lights:
Do you have a child who will be between 6 and 1/2 to 10 and 1/4 years old and will have completed all treatment by
December 2017? Northern Lights Charity are going to Lapland for 5 days. Your child will stay at a Manchester hotel on 14th Dec, then fly to Lapland on 15th to 19th Dec. Patient only, no parents. This is a wonderful opportunity for your child to experience. If interested please call the CHICS office on 0151 523 8886. Please do not tell your child that they are definitely going as this is a nomination only at this point.

The Young Persons Guide to Lymphoma:
The Lymphoma Association has a publication out - "The Young Persons Guide to Lymphoma". We and they hope this will be a valuable and informative resource for teenagers affected by lymphatic cancer and their families and friends. You can read it online by clicking here, or download a copy to your computer by right clicking on the link and choose "Save Target As", then select where you want to save it on your computer.

Our thanks goes to Helen Mee, the Assistant to the Hospital Liaison Officer, Lymphoma Association - www.lymphomas.org.uk - for providing us with this information.

Travel for Charity:
If you are thinking about summer holidays, why not book your holiday through the above named organisation. By booking through this agency, a large proportion of the commission charged on the holiday will be donated to a charity of your choice. Prices are exactly the same if you book with a high street travel agent but by doing it this way you can donate money to CHICS with no extra cost to yourselves. Contact Travel for Charity on 08700130568 or www.travel-for-charity.co.uk

Patient and Carers Council:
This group will be holding monthly meetings at Alder Hey on MONDAY 10am-12pm and WEDNESDAY 7pm-10pm. If you are in the hospital already why not try to go along. If not and you think you may be interested then please try to attend.

Sibling Day:
Does your brother or sister have cancer? Are they still on treatment? Are you aged between 7-16? Then why don’t you come along to the Oncology unit and spend the morning doing great things with other people your age. Enjoy lunch and have fun. If interested speak to the Macmillan nurses or Cath/Tracy the CLIC Sargent Social Workers on the Oncology unit.

Search Engine:
Do you use a search engine on the Internet? If so look at Everyclick (http://www.everyclick.com/), one of our parents have registered CHICS with this company. They will pay 1p for every search one of our members makes.
